Job Summary

At the State of Minnesota, employees play a critical role in developing policies, providing essential services, and working to improve the well‑being and quality of life for all Minnesotans. The Forensic Nursing Home is a secure facility that provides nursing home level care to residents who are under court commitment or serving a sentence through the MN Department of Corrections. Residents served at this facility have physical and mental health needs, in addition to requiring assistance with daily cares.

The Registered Nurse Senior will provide experienced, professional nursing care. The incumbent assesses and diagnoses the needs of patients; develops individualized nursing plans to meet those needs in coordination with the multidisciplinary team; provides direct nursing intervention and/or delegates specific nursing tasks to appropriate staff; and evaluates the effectiveness of the plan and the care provided during the shift. The incumbent also provides clinical oversight of nursing processes and defined administrative functions in conjunction with the Registered Nurse Administrative Supervisor.

The incumbent will also provide leadership in establishing, facilitating and implementing the mission, philosophy, goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current licensure in the State of Minnesota as a Registered Nurse;
  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree, plus two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse;
  • Associate's degree or diploma in nursing, plus three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse;
  • Certification in an area of expertise equals one (1) year of Registered Nurse experience;
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within a mental health setting;
  • Experience working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
Additional Requirements
  • Reference checks to verify job‑related credentials and a criminal background check prior to appointment;
  • Education verification:
    Applicants must provide a copy of their high school diploma at interview or copies of college transcripts/degree/diploma with the field of study clearly identified;
  • Proof of being free from tuberculosis (TB) through a blood test prior to employment.
