Correctional Officer

Responsibilities

• Perform intake procedures for incoming prisoners, including fingerprinting, photographing, recording personal belongings, and conducting pat or body searches.
• Maintain written logs, run criminal histories, update inmate files, escort prisoners to court, and transport prisoners to other facilities.
• Supervise prisoner activities, provide commissary, serve inmate meals, and perform emergency first aid or treatment when required.
• Provide security for courthouse staff, judges, defendants, and spectators; assess threats, remove disruptive individuals, and take individuals into custody.
• Maintain the care, custody, and control of jail facility inmates, monitor behavior to mitigate crime and escape attempts, conduct routine rounds, perform random drug and alcohol tests, enforce facility regulations, policies, and procedures, escort inmates around the facility, and implement defensive tactics and physical restraint to maintain safety and security as needed.
• Complete intake procedures on incoming prisoners, including fingerprinting, photographing, inputting data into the computer, recording personal belongings, performing pat or body searches, and placing inmates into appropriate security and sleeping areas.
• Respond to prisoner health complaints, provide first aid, distribute prescriptions, and arrange medical appointments.
• Prepare and maintain statistical and operational reports, logs, assignments, and records.
• Complete release procedures, including preparing release forms and returning personal property.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as required.

• A high school diploma or GED.
• A valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
• Candidate must pass an extensive background check, including a physical and psychological assessment.
