Security Counselor - Forensics Support Specialist
Position OverviewThe Minnesota Department of Direct Care & Treatment (DCT) is seeking dependable and enthusiastic individuals to join our agency as a Security Counselor (Minnesota Sex Offender Program) or Forensic Support Specialist (Forensic Mental Health Program). This position will provide facility security and/or residential care to individuals within one of the following programs at our St. Peter campus:
- Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) — for individuals who have completed their prison sentences and are civilly committed by the courts and placed in sex offender treatment for an indeterminate period of time.
- Forensic Mental Health Program (FMHP) — provides psychiatric evaluation and treatment services to individuals diagnosed with a mental illness who present a risk to public safety.
- Providing informal counseling.
- Implementing treatment plans.
- Observing and documenting client behavior.
- Encouraging client participation in program activities.
- Providing security and verbal and/or physical crisis intervention.
- Have a HS diploma or GED.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- At least ONE of the following in order to qualify for further consideration:
- One or more years of full‑time work experience in any field.
- Two or more years of part‑time work experience in any field.
- An associate’s degree or higher in a related field of study, such as Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or other.
- Experience working in a secured facility monitoring and counseling a similar client and patient population as the Minnesota Sex Offender Program or Forensic Mental Health Program.
- Experience working effectively with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures.
Reference checks and a criminal background check will be conducted prior to appointment. Proof of tuberculosis (TB) clearance must be provided prior to employment.
