Overview:
The Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This position focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, provides direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients, and directs and oversees the care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. This role coordinates patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.
- Deliver nursing practices according to current evidence-based research, policies, and standards of care to provide safe, individualized patient care.
- Perform comprehensive data collection and age- and disease-specific assessments; monitor physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
- Identify changes in patient status and evolving educational needs of patients and families based on age, disease, and learning differences.
- Develop, coordinate, and communicate a patient/family-centered plan of care; ensure timely implementation and progression of care plans.
- Provide ongoing communication with patients, families, nursing colleagues, and the health care team regarding status, care rendered, and treatment plans.
- Perform nursing care and treatments reflecting patient needs, advocacy, and evidence-based practice; ensure documentation and adherence to standards.
- Utilize point-of-care electronic documentation for assessments, plans of care, interventions, and evaluation of care.
- Administer medications using current bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safe delivery.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary discharge planning to ensure safe transition of care.
- Maintain competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation or licensing requirements.
- Adhere to professional standards and organizational competencies.
- Current and valid New Jersey Nursing license required
- BLS/CPR certification by American Heart Association required
- ACLS preferred
- BSN in progress and/or willing to acquire within three years of hire
- Oncology experience preferred; willing to obtain OCN within 2 years of hire
- Previous infusion experience strongly preferred
- Ability to learn quickly, strong accountability, teamwork, ongoing education, and commitment to high-quality patient care
