Overview
The Director, Technical Accounting (US) will serve as the primary hands-on authority for complex US GAAP compliance, financial reporting integrity, and specialized accounting treatments. Acting as the functional backup to the CAO, this role combines high-level technical expertise with leadership capabilities. The successful candidate will oversee the application of accounting standards, lead the resolution of complex transactional treatments, ensure audit readiness, and provide logic-based structural solutions to management.
Responsibilities- Serve as the principal internal expert on US GAAP, analyzing complex transactions and authoring formal accounting position papers for management and external auditors.
- Support and at times act as backup for the daily activities of the AP Specialist.
- Provide technical guidance, process troubleshooting, and workload prioritization.
- Provide technical oversight and strategic guidance to the broader US accounting team, establishing clear policy frameworks for operational accounting staff.
- Support business functional leaders and executive management to provide financial data necessary for business decisions.
- Recommend and implement accounting policies and procedures aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Act as the first point of contact for departmental managers regarding budget variances, coding logic, and financial policy inquiries.
- Prepare all manual journal entries and reconciliations to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Prepare all requested information by external tax consultants to prepare tax returns.
- Prepare and manage all AR activities.
- Identify and resolve accounting issues with expediency.
- Perform bank reconciliation and assess credit card availability levels.
- Handle all miscellaneous accounting activities.
- Engage in ongoing cost reduction analyses in all areas of the company.
- Create additional analyses and reports as requested by management.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
- Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff as the company continues to grow its US business, fostering a culture of technical experience and collaboration.
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive accounting experience in public company accounting and/or technical accounting roles.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required; CPA highly preferred.
- Comprehensive, expert-level knowledge of US GAAP, corporate tax logic, financial statement mechanics, internal control structures, and multi-entity consolidations.
- Proven ability to work with minimal daily supervision and the professional courage to make sound accounting decisions.
- High proficiency in Quick Books and SAP/S4
Hana required. - Hands-on transactional experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable and general accounting areas.
- Outstanding knowledge of electronic spreadsheets in Excel.
- Strong analytical, planning, and communication skills to interpret complex accounting issues and convey guidance effectively.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and adjust to changing priorities quickly and with accuracy.
