Description:

To assist and support the classroom teacher and to provide effective direct instruction to students in a positive teaching-learning environment and in a variety of instructional settings

Job Summary:

MAJOR

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

* Cooperatively perform tasks under the supervision of assigned certified professional employees in a variety of instructional settings.

* Provide assistance to teachers and related service personnel in preparing and implementing instructional curriculum, and daily classroom routines.

* Work with individual students and with groups as directed.

* Anticipate the needs of the teacher(s) and students to maximize instructional time on task.

* Assist in testing routines including data collection and criterion-referenced assessments.

* Operate, store, and use educational media, computers and equipment as directed.

* Engage in activities, which promote positive communication and understanding school and community.

* Participate in in-service training workshops as required by the District, principal or designee (i.e. academic instruction, crisis management, compliance training,etc.).

* Appropriately manage students physically, verbally, and non-verbally who may be out of control, working collaboratively with the instructional team.

* Keep data and compile records as assigned.

* Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

* High School Diploma or G.E.D.

* 48 semester hours of college coursework from a regionally accredited college or university OR meets NCLB requirements for Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals

* Bilingual (preferred)

Experience:

Some experience working with children.
