Job Summary
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom instruction/activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of Bilingual or ESL certified teacher. Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Support- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom
- Assist teacher with maintenance of administrative records and prepare required reports
- Provides language support to EL students in core subject areas
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of lessons under the supervision of teacher of record
- Assist in obtaining books and materials ready for instruction in bilingual or ESL classes
- Works with students one‑on‑one, administer make‑up tests, answer questions and provide extra skills practice as assigned by teacher of record
- Repeats or rephrases directions and checks to ensure student understanding
- Know students' names and interests to make class lessons more relevant
- Assist in the preparation of strategies and materials to help scaffold vocabulary development and lesson reinforcement under teacher's direction
- Assist teacher to configure the class into teams, groups or pairs for special activities
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups
- Serves as a facilitator during learning activities to ensure student engagement
- Assist the teacher of record with student issues that may prevent student from learning
- Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom
- Function as a liaison between classroom teacher and student
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students
- Assist with Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) record‑keeping, filing and data/document collection
- Be a positive role model for students and support the goals of the campus and school district
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance
- Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned
- Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district/campus personnel
- Assess students with languages other than English with state approved language identification tests (i.e. IPT)
- Maintain confidentiality
- Must be team oriented and able to assist in the care and safety of all special needs children on the campus
- Assume responsibility for maintaining classroom routine in the absence of the teacher
- Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance
- Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel
- Use professional information discreetly and judiciously
- Support and follow administrative and Board policy
- Represent the school system to the community in a positive and professional way
- Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons and provide customer service
- Regular attendance is required
- Perform all other duties as assigned by teacher of record or Multilingual/ESL Programs Director

- High school diploma or GED equivalent (Required)
- Associate degree or 60 hours from an accredited college or university (Preferred)
- Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate (Required)
- Minimum of two‑year's experience working with children (Preferred)
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Bilingual (Preferred)
- Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
- Excellent, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
