Substitute HVAC instructor

Job Description

We are seeking a qualified and dependable Substitute HVAC Instructor to provide classroom and laboratory instruction on an as‑needed basis. This position serves as a substitute for the full‑time HVAC instructor when they are unavailable due to illness, professional development, vacation, or other approved absences. Work hours and assignments will vary based on instructional needs, and there is no guarantee of a minimum number of hours.

• Provide classroom and hands‑on laboratory instruction in HVAC principles, systems, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety.
• Follow the established curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional objectives provided by the full‑time instructor or department.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and productive learning environment.
• Demonstrate proper use of HVAC tools, equipment, and industry‑standard practices.
• Monitor student attendance, participation, and progress during assigned classes.
• Enforce school policies, safety regulations, and classroom expectations.
• Communicate with department leadership regarding class activities and any student concerns.
• Perform other related instructional duties as assigned.

• Spanish fluency is a plus, but not required.
• HVAC certification (EPA 608 required; NATE certification preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of HVAC repair technician experience.
• Previous teaching or training experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and mentor adult learners.

This is an as‑needed substitute position. The substitute instructor will be contacted when the full‑time HVAC instructor is unavailable. Assignments may be scheduled in advance or on short notice, depending on departmental needs. Hours and frequency of work will vary throughout the year.
