Welding Engineer III
The Welding Engineer is part of our Subsea Technologies Division located in Stafford, TX. A welding engineer has responsibility for providing daily expert technical oversight for welding procedures, weld technicians and associate welding production issues. Also responsible for the managing of welding qualifications, creating and maintaining welding procedures, analyzing designs for welding requirements and reviewing customer welding specifications.
Responsibilities:
- BS Engineering degree, Mechanical Engineering degree or other from accredited engineering program
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) preferred
- 4+ year's experience, practical hands-on experience preferred
- Participates and Leads welding qualifications including weld procedure development, testing plans, review of testing results, writing weld procedures and associated documents, interfacing with customer subject matter experts to finalize weld procedures
- Establishing welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes and pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of completes alloys, unusual fabrication method, welding of critical joins and complex post heating requirements.
- Strong understanding of industry codes (ASME, API, AWS, DNVGL, etc.)
- Strong understanding of destructive testing, NDE method and arc welding processes
- Experience with welding parameters development, writing WPQR(s) and WPS(s)
- Performs complex welding engineering tasks with minimal supervision and direction from a manager or lead
- Extensive knowledge of company welding and PWHT processes and applications
- Initiate and implement improvements, innovations and solutions of welding and PWHT technologies and capabilities.
- Accountable for quality and compliance of welding documentation.
- Supports lower-level Welding Engineers.
Physical Demands:
- This position requires an onsite presence to perform the essential duties.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment/Conditions:
- This position will require working primarily indoors in a smoke-free office and manufacturing facility but may also require the employee to be outdoors on occasion.
- Limited travel will be required to support offsite personnel and business projects.
- Occasional assignments will require remote accessing and may include evening or weekend schedules.
- The noise level is usually moderate. Employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
