Position: Mechanic Master Facilities 2025-2026

Overview The Mechanic Master Facilities will perform mechanical work at the master level of difficulty on District white fleet vehicles in accordance with prescribed preventive maintenance schedules. This incumbent will emphasize work on safety, cost control, and responsiveness to operational needs in order to provide safe, efficient, and reliable transportation with well maintained vehicles.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operational
  • Perform skilled routine mechanical work on District fleet vehicles in accordance to established preventive maintenance schedules
  • Maintain, repair, overhaul, and/or replace diesel and/or gasoline engines, transmissions and differentials, hydraulic and air brake systems, power steering systems, ignition and electrical systems
  • Respond to service calls, operate a wrecker and tow broken down vehicles
  • Operate cutting and welding equipment as required
  • Conduct preventative maintenance tasks such as oil and battery changes/services as well as replacement of belts, hose, lights and air/fuel filters
  • Maintain, repair, overhaul, and/or replace computer and electronic control systems, air conditioning and heating systems
  • Perform tune-ups, suspension and drive train components
Safety and Inspection
  • Diagnose fleet vehicle issues to determine the problems through the usage of diagnostic equipment, inspection and road testing
  • Grease and lubricate vehicle parts and provided fluid level inspections in accordance with the Preventive Maintenance Schedule
  • With the direction of Master Mechanic, Certified conduct vehicle inspections as required by the state and issue certified vehicle safe inspector decals
Administrative
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order
  • Communicate with Parts Department on needed parts, materials and supplies for vehicle repairs
  • Complete work orders, prepare routine reports, and maintain files utilizing fleet vehicle maintenance software
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • May assign work to other employees
Qualification Requirements

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities, required unless otherwise stated as preferred.   • High School Diploma or GED required or supplemented by completion of an approved automotive mechanic training program at the apprentice level
  • Class B, Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement required or must obtain within 180 calendar days of hired date
  • Valid Texas Drivers License required
  • CFC-12 Certification or be able to obtain within one year of employment required
  • Minimum of 3 years Skilled mechanic in the maintenance and repair of light, medium, and heavy duty automotive equipment, including experience in the repair of gasoline and diesel engines, air conditioning systems and hydraulic systems
  • Working knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of light, medium, and heavy duty automotive equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines and alternative fuels
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of tools and equipment pertinent to the trade
  • Ability to follow oral and written instruction, and to communicate clearly and concisely and maintain good interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to diagnose and repair both routine and the more complex problems on all types of automotive vehicles and components
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools associated with the trade
  • Ability to operate a computer, keep routine records and prepare routine reports
