HVAC Commercial Service Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

The HVAC Technician is responsible for performing repairs and maintenance to a variety of equipment including: refrigeration, air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, hermetic compressors, commercial furnaces, boilers, burners, intake and exhaust fans, economizers, humidifiers, capacity controls, semi-hermetic compressors, split systems, flame safeguard controls, air compressors, air driers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Provides preventive maintenance on heating and cooling systems.
• Troubleshoots units that are not working and replaces parts that are defective.
• Performs related work as assigned.
• Installs refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, pneumatic control, and humidity control systems.
• Understanding and troubleshooting knowledge of the following:

• Rooftop Units

• Walk-in and reach-in Freezers and Coolers

• Air Handling Units

• Boilers and Chillers

• Cooling Towers

• VAV Boxes

• Variable Frequency Drives

• Build strong customer relationships and build knowledge and understanding of new and existing customer needs/expectations

Work Environment:

• Exposure to hot, cold, and inclement outdoor weather conditions

• Frequent noise and occasional poor ventilation or hazardous conditions

• Tasks performed in both indoor and outdoor commercial settings

• Occasional work in small or enclosed spaces

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Minimum 7+ yrs experience specific to the commercial HVAC industry
• Knowledge of the theory, methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the trade.
• Possess own basic hand tools
• Universal EPA Certified.
• Knowledge of the operating principles and characteristics of the various types of refrigeration, pneumatic/ddc control, and air conditioning systems.
• Knowledge of basic electricity and control systems.
• Ability to apply the theory, technique, principles, and processes of the HVAC mechanic's trade.
• Ability to read, understand, and work from blueprints, specifications, and schematics

Essential Physical Requirements:
• Frequent climbing of ladders and access to rooftops or elevated areas
• Frequent bending, kneeling, and working in tight or confined spaces
• Prolonged standing, walking, or sitting during service calls
• Regular lifting and moving of equipment and tools up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting up to 100 lbs
• Repetitive use of hands, wrists, and fingers when using tools or equipment
• Use of hand and power tools; occasional operation of vehicles or heavy equipment
• Clear verbal communication and interaction with team members and clients

Salary Description

$42-$50/hr
