Position: Utility Locator III (SUE Field Technician)

OVERVIEW

A Utility Locator III is responsible for the operation and management of a Utility Location and Subsurface Utility Engineering "SUE" field crew. Accurate and efficient data collection, location of features, and timely delivery of data to the office while maintaining accurate records of work and expenses is essential. Problem solving, helpfulness, analytical thinking, detail orientation, and an appreciation for structure are beneficial traits for this position.

DURING

YOUR WORK DAY, YOU WILL:
  • Manage a Utility Location and Subsurface Utility Engineering "SUE" field crew.
  • Lead with major objectives: quality, safety, schedules, budgets, and responsive service to clients.
  • Utilize Subsurface Utility Engineering field equipment such as ground penetrating radar, electromagnetic designating equipment, sewer camera, probe rod, jackhammer, pneumatic tampers, vacuum excavation equipment, and other geophysical means while adhering to safety protocols, industry standards, and guidelines.
  • Organize field work and direct crew members while accurately collecting field data, locating features, delivering data to the office, and maintaining accurate records of work and expenses.
  • Travel overnight as required.
  • Walk around a lot outside year‑round, navigating all kinds of terrain and extreme heat and cold.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in Utility Locating along with Subsurface Utility Engineering "SUE" field operations, proficiency with SUE locating equipment, total stations, GPS, and vacuum excavation equipment.
  • Some proficiency with ground penetrating radar is desired.
  • Proficient technical skills with behavioral traits of process orientation, steadiness, helpfulness, honesty, trustworthiness, adaptability, analytical thinking, problem solving, independence when required, methodical, consistency, attention to detail, and precision.
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record, cleared criminal background check, and negative drug test result.
