Shirley Parsons is partnered with a leading data center client in need of an experienced Safety Manager to support a large-scale construction project in the Manassas, VA area. This role is ideal for a hands‑on safety professional with strong data center or mission‑critical construction experience who can lead site safety efforts and drive a proactive, compliance‑focused culture in a fast‑paced environment.
- Start Date: ASAP
- Duration: 6+ months (with potential for extension)
- Schedule: ~50 hours/week (overtime eligible)
- Location: Ashburn/Chantilly/Sterling, VA area or Manassas
- Lead and manage all on‑site safety operations for a complex data center construction project
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety‑related matters on site
- Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors to enforce safety expectations and accountability
- Conduct daily site walks, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA and client standards
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve site‑specific safety programs and procedures
- Review and approve Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Method Statements, and Permits to Work
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions
- Deliver safety orientations, training sessions, and daily toolbox talks
- Track, trend, and report key safety metrics (KPIs) to internal and client stakeholders
- Ensure proper documentation of inspections, audits, incidents, and corrective actions
- Monitor high‑risk activities including LOTO, energized work, working at heights, confined space entry, and heavy lifts
- Coordinate and lead weekly safety meetings with subcontractors and project leadership
- Perform pre‑task planning reviews and verify hazard controls are in place prior to work activities
- Enforce PPE compliance and site‑specific safety requirements across all trades
- Support client audits and third‑party inspections, ensuring readiness at all times
- Mentor and coach field personnel and junior safety staff to strengthen overall site safety culture
- Interface with client EHS teams to align on expectations, reporting, and compliance standards
- Review subcontractor safety programs and verify alignment with project requirements
- Assist with emergency response planning, drills, and incident preparedness
- Identify leading indicators and proactively address potential risks before incidents occur
- Proven experience in a Safety Manager role supporting data center or large‑scale construction projects
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices
- Experience working in fast‑paced, multi‑trade environments
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to influence and build a strong safety culture on site
- BCSP certification (CHST, CSP, ASP) preferred
