Job Title:
Teacher - Collision Repair Technology (Auto Mechanic)
North Stafford High School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Collision Repair Technology Instructor to teach specialized courses as part of the school's Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The instructor will prepare students for careers in the automotive refinishing and repair industry by providing hands-on training, theoretical knowledge, and preparation for industry certifications. The successful candidate must meet the requirements for a Technical Professional License issued by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).
Instructional Delivery & Curriculum
- Implement a curriculum that aligns with Virginia's CTE competencies for Collision Repair Technology and I-CAR/ASE industry standards.
- Develop and deliver engaging instruction in non-structural analysis, damage repair, painting, and refinishing.
- Provide hands-on training in a lab setting using professional tools such as spray booths, frame straightening equipment, and welding tools.
- Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications, including ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) and EPA Section 609.
- Supervise and assess student progress through practical shop exercises, written evaluations, and project-based learning.
Student Support & Employability
- Guide students in developing employability skills such as teamwork, professionalism, and problem-solving.
- Support students in work-based learning opportunities, including internships and job shadowing at local body shops.
- Maintain accurate student records, including grades, attendance, and safety credential completion.
Safety & Collaboration
- Promote safety and ensure strict compliance with OSHA, VDOE, and environmental regulations regarding hazardous materials and shop equipment.
- Establish partnerships with local collision repair businesses and industry professionals to support student placement.
- Collaborate with other CTE instructors and school staff to enhance the overall student learning experience.
Education and Experience
- Hold at least a high school diploma or G.E.D.;
Associate's degree or higher preferred. - Hold or be eligible for a Technical Professional License issued by the VDOE with an endorsement in Collision Repair (Auto Body Repair).
- Hold Industry Certifications, such as ASE (B2–B5), I-CAR Professional Platinum status, or equivalent.
- At least four (4) years of documented occupational experience in the collision repair industry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Deep understanding of automotive systems, including structural repair, plastic repair, and waterborne/solvent-based refinishing.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills to manage a diverse classroom and high-activity lab environment.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and show sustained enthusiasm for student success.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Work is performed primarily in an automotive shop/lab environment with moderate noise and exposure to chemicals, dust, and fumes where personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided.
- Moderate work requiring the exertion of up to 30 pounds of force. Requires standing for prolonged periods, manual dexterity to operate tools, and the ability to identify colors visually for paint matching.
