General Purpose
The Family Engagement Coordinator implements the goals and priorities of the Strategic Plan that pertains to Family Engagement and Equitable practices. Reporting directly to the Principal of their assigned base-office, the Coordinator assists with communication between students, families, and the school in a holistic manner to enrich the student's development and will work in conjunction with other staff to create a TOT model for authentic Family Engagement.
Promotes understanding of families' cultural diversity; and ensures families feel welcome, trusted, and valued by the school; conducts outreach through a variety of communications to empower families to be actively engaged in their children's education; collaborates with colleagues to design, promote, and implement high impact family engagement strategies during the school day and after school; facilitates communications and provides SCPS information and resources to families;
encourages family engagement; builds relationships with and among families, staff members, and community members.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provides information about SCPS and the schools and conducts an orientation upon admission or within the first two weeks of admission to new English Learner students and their families, and helps the families procure ongoing support throughout the year. Helps schools in creating a system for holding orientation meetings for new English Learner students and their families and helps schools create a system of ongoing support throughout the year.
- Helps schools in communicating/explaining school rules, procedures, schedules, and curriculum to Families as needed with an emphasis to English Learner students and their families
- Provides connections between parents, community, and school staff to support student achievement and facilitate communications.
- Directs staff and families to appropriate SCPS and community resources for information and resolution of concerns.
- Identifies best practices and assists in the development strategies to facilitate school/community collaboration.
- In conjunction with school-based staff, develops and helps coordinate programs to involve families and the community in students' education and school programs.
- Plans, schedules, helps organize, and participates in delivering a variety of school/community outreach and involvement activities, including one-on-one consultations, small meetings, presentations, conferences, and workshops for families and staff members.
- Participates in school, community and civic activities to maintain visibility and credibility in the community.
- Researches and develops strategies that promote staff members' outreach to parents.
- Assists, staff and leadership in ensuring multilingual communication is included at events and informally, and in a limited fashion, and only for emergencies or extremely unusual circumstances, interprets if and where needed by faculty and parents.
- Assist with the overall training support for Family engagement initiatives and programs and develops strategies improvement - both at school and district level.
- Maintains knowledge of developments in Family Engagement and staff development.

Education and Experience
- Three (3) years of progressive experience working with families and with school and community activities and programs.
- Preferred experience in working with K-12 age children and/or a placement similar to an educational setting.
- Experience with family engagement programs and/or community agencies.
- Bilingual-English, Pashto, and Dari Required.
