Job Summary And Purpose
This position assists in the development and implementation of the total school program. The assistant principal may serve as the primary administrator in the absence or disability of the principal by assuming responsibility for instructional leadership and effective school management.
Responsibilities- Maintain daily school functions
- Assist in the supervision of the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and non‑academic purposes.
- Assist in establishing a plan for the improvement of instruction, school philosophy, and school policies within District guidelines.
- Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the student body and effectively implement the School Board’s Student Code of Conduct.
- Responsible for tracking referrals, follow‑ups, evaluations, determinations, IEP meetings, and reevaluations.
- Assist in planning and supervision of the emergency preparedness program, including fire drills, according to state law and division regulations.
- Update the Crisis Plan and keep open communication with staff as well as the Office of Safety and Security; assist with supervision and evaluation of all licensed and service personnel.
- Meet and confer with staff, committees, grade‑level chairpersons, individual students, parents, and central office personnel.
- Assist in providing for the safe arrival and departure of students.
- Assist in the coordination of curriculum‑related activities and programs.
- Assist in the maintenance of a healthy school environment.
- Assist the principal in the selection, assignment, and orientation of staff.
- Schedule and conduct interviews to ensure the school is fully staffed.
- Coordinate the assignments of and assist with the supervision of student teachers, aides, and volunteers.
- Assist the principal with the budget and procurement process.
- Assist in the supervision of co‑curricular and athletic activities.
- Approve the master teaching schedule, coordinate the scheduling process, and make necessary assignments.
- Review and add written job descriptions for all school staff as needed.
- Provide assistance in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum.
- Provide assistance as warranted in emergency situations.
- Serve as representative for school and division committees.
- Serves as designee for all IEP, 504, and Student Education Committee (SEC) meetings.
- Attend grade‑level meetings to support Professional Learning Communities.
- Serve as chairperson of the Child Study and Multidisciplinary team, assisting teachers with making referrals and implementing interventions while ensuring that all special education staff and committees follow federal, state, and local procedures.
- Attend school‑sponsored activities.
- Coordinate with Mental Health, Health, Teachers, and Parents regarding health, dental, nutritional, mental health, disability, and safety needs of children and all other facets of operation that should be handled jointly.
- Provide monthly reports
- Prepare and submit accurate monthly reports to the Policy Council and Supervisor of Head Start; continue ongoing monitoring throughout the year to ensure all student data is up to date.
- Write grants and grant reports and assist in fiscal monitoring. Assist with the completion of inventories of all property under jurisdiction for security, accountability, and distribution (e.g., textbooks, computer technology, lockers).
- Education Attainment (Required): Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
