Matern Staffing is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer for a global defense technology company in Stafford, VA. In this role, you’ll bridge the gap between design and production to ensure manufacturing processes are robust, scalable, and aligned with product requirements. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll use your strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and electro‑mechanical expertise to support New Product Introduction (NPI), refine production workflows, and guide cross‑functional teams through technical challenges.
This is a direct hire role requiring applicants to live within a 30-minute commute of the Stafford office.
$105,000-$115,000/yr

What You’ll Do:New Product Introduction (NPI) Support
- Collaborate with R&D, design, and supply chain teams to transition products from development to production
- Develop and validate manufacturing processes for new products, including tooling, fixtures, and assembly methods
- Participate in design reviews to ensure manufacturability and cost‑effectiveness
Technical Data Package (TDP) Support
- Interpret and clarify engineering drawings, PCBA schematics, BOMs, and specifications for internal teams and suppliers
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and production‑ready
Process Engineering
- Define and optimize assembly and test processes for electro‑mechanical systems
- Support root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for production issues
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with procurement, quality, and supplier engineering teams to ensure alignment on technical requirements
- Support supplier onboarding and provide technical training as needed
- Collaborate with design and R&D teams to ensure the manufacture of new products
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field)
- Per contract requirements: MUST BE A US Citizen with the ability to travel internationally
- 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably with electro‑mechanical, defense, or aerospace systems
- Strong understanding of NPI processes and DFM principles
- Proficiency interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, PCBA schematics, and BOMs
- Skilled in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works) and manufacturing systems (e.g., PDM, Autodesk Vault, SW Composer)
- Strong understanding of electro‑mechanical assembly methods
- Experience working with suppliers and contract manufacturers
- Knowledge of CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, and composites
- Familiarity with ERP and PLM systems
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Preferred
Skills:
- Knowledge of IPC standards and electronics manufacturing best practices
- Hands‑on experience with assembly, testing, and troubleshooting
- Lean Six Sigma certification or similar process improvement training
