Step into a vital support role providing sign language interpretation services to students across various schools in Northern Virginia. This rewarding as-needed, part-time opportunity is designed to build a robust pool of American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters, working directly on-site within schools. Assignments will be guided by district needs and may vary in location and frequency, making this a dynamic and flexible position suited for interpreting professionals seeking meaningful engagement within educational environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality sign language interpretation for students and staff in K-12 settings
  • Adapt interpreting approach to accommodate varying age groups and learning needs
  • Collaborate with teachers, other support staff, and district personnel to optimize student inclusion and participation
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions
  • Remain available to accept assignments as called upon during the school year

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Must reside within commuting distance for on-site assignments
  • Either hold, or be eligible for, VQAS Level III certification or a 3.5 score on the EIPA (pending final district requirements)
  • Willing to complete a VA Department of Social Services background check immediately upon hire
  • Ability to provide proof of a current TB test, as required by Virginia law
  • Experience in educational or youth settings is strongly preferred
