Job Summary

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) provides clinical services to women in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The incumbent must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of the interdependent roles of allied health professions. Responsibilities include assessing physical, psychosocial, cognitive, and functional components, developing treatment plans, ordering and interpreting diagnostic components, and prescribing non‑pharmacological and pharmacological agents. The CNM functions under a practice agreement with the supervising physician and organizationally under the Vice President Nursing Services or designee.

• Provide inpatient and outpatient obstetrical care throughout the entire pregnancy, including collaborative management and delivery of laboring patients and OB emergency care.
• Provide gynecologic care, including wellness screening, comprehensive health assessments, and in‑office procedures such as placement of IUDs, colposcopy, and endometrial biopsy.
• Arrange inpatient admissions, transfers, and discharges according to established guidelines and standards within the collaborative practice.
• Perform inpatient rounds, record appropriate notes, compile detailed narratives and case summaries, and complete forms pertinent to patients’ medical records.
• Manage low‑risk pregnancies and participate in collaborative care of high‑risk pregnancies.
• Provide support during labor and childbirth, postpartum, intrapartum, and antepartum care in hospital and outpatient settings.
• Perform procedures such as circumcision, 1st and 2nd‑degree laceration repair, and assist with cesarean deliveries.
• Initiate therapeutic regimens, including ordering drugs, medical devices, nutrition, and supportive services per established protocols and institutional policies.
• Order laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies appropriate for the complaint, age, race, sex, and physical condition of the patient.
• Institute appropriate emergency/stabilization measures and/or treatment in situations such as cardiac arrest, shock, hemorrhage, convulsions, poisoning, and allergic reactions.
• Perform complete, detailed, and accurate health histories and patient record reviews.
• Develop comprehensive medical and nursing status reports.
• Meet all requirements of the practice agreement with the supervising physician(s) under Virginia regulations and requirements.

• Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Virginia (required).
• Current Virginia state certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner (required).
• Certified Nurse‑Midwife (CNM) through the American Midwifery Certification Board (required at hire).
• AHA BLS Provider CPR (required at hire).
• AHA ACLS Provider required within 90 days of hire.
• NRP required within 90 days of hire.
• Valid DEA certificate required within 90 days of hire.
• Two years of experience working as a CNM with a strong background in OBGYN (preferred).
• Working knowledge of ICD‑9/10, CPT, and HCPCS coding, required.
• Experience using Electronic Medical Records systems (preferred).
• Ability to work effectively in emergency situations and under stress.
• Ability to work cooperatively/collaboratively as part of a team and develop productive working relationships with diverse groups of people.

Pay Range: $58.61 - $73.26 per hour.
