- The Locate Technician is responsible for accurately identifying and marking underground utilities to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires a keen attention to detail and a commitment to safety standards, helping prevent damage to critical infrastructure and ensuring public safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough site surveys to identify and mark underground utilities using specialized equipment.
- Interpret and analyze utility maps and blueprints to ensure precise location of utilities.
- Communicate effectively with construction teams and other stakeholders to provide clear and accurate information regarding utility locations.
- Maintain detailed records of all markings and surveys conducted, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and damage during excavation activities.
- Stay updated on industry standards, technology advancements, and regulatory changes related to utility locating.
- Provide training and guidance to junior technicians and new team members as needed.
- Respond promptly to emergency locate requests to support urgent excavation needs.
Required
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent. An associate degree in a related field is preferred.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in utility locating or a related field.
- Proven track record of working with utility maps and blueprints.
- Experience with electronic locating equipment and GPS technology.
Required
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of utility infrastructure and underground utilities.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Proficient in using electronic locating equipment and GPS devices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with team members and clients.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
