Real Estate Accountant
Expanding real estate investment and lending institution, is seeking a strong Real Estate Accountant. This individual will assist with cash management, accounts receivable, loans and property accounting for a portfolio of commercial and mixed-used properties. This role also offers close mentorship from a great mentor and significant potential for growth in our highly collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting duties for commercial and mixed-use properties
- Assist in maintaining loan system and database for all loans
- Prepare financial statements for assigned portfolios
- Analyze/prepare annual CAM reconciliations
- Analyze the general ledger for each property and prepare monthly journal entries
- Calculate accruals and adjustments
- Maintain detailed workpaper files on a monthly basis for each investment
- Review results of operations and provide detailed explanations of variances
- Review invoices to ensure correct account coding and expense allocations
- Prepare reconciliations of all cash accounts, reserves and escrows
- Monitor cash balances and request capital funding or distributions, as needed
- Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules
- Calculate real estate tax and operating expense escalations
- Interact with asset managers, leasing agents, and property managers
- Assist in the resolution of tenant billing inquiries with accounts receivable and legal departments
- Compile financial information for analysts during debt refinances and/or sales of properties
- Prepare annual budget and reforecast
- Prepare real estate tax filings
- Interact with various audit firms for annual audits and tax return preparation
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
- Background in public accounting or private industry within the real estate industry
- Knowledge of Yardi, MRI, Nortridge or similar software is preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Self-starter with strong ability to organize and prioritize
- Strong Microsoft Excel capabilities
- Detail-oriented, proactive team player who can also work independently
