Research Director, Equities Lead - Market Structure & Technology
As a Research Director within our Market Structure & Technology practice, you will strive to become a thought leader and trusted advisor to financial institutions and technology vendors. You will focus on providing actionable recommendations to our customers by producing research papers, interacting with clients, and leading consulting engagements with a particular emphasis on Equity markets and related technologies. Candidates must be able to cover cash and derivative markets and the regulatory changes that impact those markets.
The ideal candidate brings a solid industry expertise (10 to 15 years of experience at a financial institution, management consulting firm, or leading technology vendor), proficiency in technology and business strategies, proven written and oral communication skills, an ability to formulate original analyses and actionable recommendations, and proven quantitative analysis skills. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
Working closely with colleagues, this position carries a high degree of autonomy and requires a candidate accustomed to multi-tasking and who will thrive in a dynamic environment.
Research Directors are expected to excel in the following areas:- Producing high-quality research reports on a regular basis. This includes all aspects from research and topic design to operational oversight and analysis.
- Providing ongoing support to the financial institutions and technology vendors that subscribe to our research practices
- Develop and maintain a vibrant contact list amongst Fin Tech firms, exchanges, trading venues, the sell side and the buy side with a goal towards becoming a go-to source for insight and analysis
- Act as the relationship manager for select key clients, helping to grow subscription and project-based revenue through ongoing engagement and collaboration with the sales team
- Supporting the sales team in expanding our client base for our subscription and project business
- Provide thought leadership and analysis on capital markets topics, revolving around trading, technology infrastructure, the impact of regulation on the financial markets industry and other strategic initiatives. Engage with clients and market participants on a wide range of critical issues, trends, strategies and technologies
- Gather, synthesize and analyze information from a number of channels into both published reports and private consulting engagements
- Maintain a constant dialogue with clients and the market at large, as well as handling ad hoc requests from clients and the media
- Give presentations and participate at client meetings, conferences and seminars
- Regularly securing speaking engagements at industry and client conferences and events
- Becoming a source of reference for the trade and top-tier press
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working at a broker, asset manager, trading venue or vendor supporting one of these constituencies. Candidates without this experience will not be considered.
- Business analysis, corporate strategy, or internal consulting experience either within a financial markets firm or a consulting firm.
- Strong knowledge of financial markets and technology
- Work experience at a strategic consulting firm such as McKinsey, BCG, Oliver Wyman, or other strategic consulting business would be a significant plus.
- Impeccable communication skills in English both in person and virtually.
- Proven written and business analysis skills
- Proven ability to create and deliver presentations to small and large groups
- A strong desire to be a leading industry thinker and influencer
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Outgoing, customer service-oriented, “can do” attitude
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic
- Proficiency in GenAI use and applications to research based consulting projects. AI-assisted coding experience a plus.
- Excellent use of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
