Special Education Teacher - STARS program

Description:

The Meriden Public Schools seeks a full-time special education teacher for the  school year for John Barry Elementary School in the STARS program. The special education teacher will work with students with special needs, including those with autism and communication needs. Responsibilities of the special education teacher also include conducting individual assessments, writing IEP’s, participating in PPT’s, timely reporting of student progress, assisting in development of FBA’s & BIP’s, training and supervision of paraprofessionals, maintaining positive communication with parents, developing student schedules, assisting with toileting, feeding, and lifting as required and other related duties assigned by the supervisor or principal.

In this role, the special educator will collaborate with external agencies that support students with disabilities as they develop 21st-century skills and prepare for independent living after high school.

Qualifications:

A valid Connecticut teacher certification with endorsement #065, #165, or #265 is required; candidates eligible for DSAP certification will be considered. Experience working with students who have been identified as having autism and communication needs is preferred. A strong candidate should have experience with AAC and working with a BCBA to create effective programming for students.
