Principal Responsibilities:
Position Overview
The Stamford JCC is seeking a dynamic Youth & Camp Coordinator to join our Programming Team and create joyful, supportive, and memorable experiences for children and their families in grades K-8. This position is ideal for an early career professional who wants to work with children and families in a JCC environment and thrives in a high-paced, dynamic direct service setting.
The Youth & Camp Coordinator will serve as a professional in the Youth & Family department, reporting to the Director of Youth and Camping and the Associate Director of Youth and Camping.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Execution
- Assist with the development and execution of all facets of K-8th grade programming, specifically for Day Camps@The J, Kids Place After School, vacation day and weekend programming, and family special events
- Serve as a key member of the Camp Leadership Team for Day Camps@The J, supporting the planning and implementation of all camp programming.
- Develop and coordinate program opportunities for youth, teen, and tween groups throughout the year
- Oversee vacation day programming when school is out of session, ensuring continuity of care for families
- Serve as a supervisor within Kids Place After School program, supporting staff and students in grades K-5
- Provide direct supervision and mentorship to part-time and seasonal staff members
- Actively participate in activities alongside children, maintaining a hands-on approach to youth development
- Ensure the safety, health, and welfare of all program participants by maintaining high standards in all activities
- Coordinate both operational and programmatic elements within Kids Place After School and Day Camps@The J
- Create age-appropriate group assignments and manage daily schedules for programs
- Facilitate timely communication between participants, parents/guardians, and staff to resolve issues that arise
- Maintain program records, track participation, and support program evaluation efforts
- Work collaboratively with the Youth Programming Team, which oversees Day Camps@The J, Kids Place After School, enrichment classes, major events, and holiday programs
- Support staff training initiatives and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
- Accept additional assignments as given by the Associate Executive Director or CEO of the JCC
Required Qualifications
Experience & Education
- 1-3 years of experience working with school-age children in formal or informal settings (camp, after-school programs, youth organizations)
- 1+ year(s) of experience managing and/or developing children's programming
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Education, Child Development, or related field preferred[
- Highly organized and process-oriented with the ability to be both focused and flexible in dynamic environments
- Excellent communication skills including listening, written, and verbal communication abilities
- Warm, cheerful, patient, and nurturing personality with genuine enthusiasm for working with children
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of children, families, instructors, educators, and co-workers
- Flexible, mature, and responsible approach to professional responsibilities
- Self-motivated team player ready to contribute to a vibrant and busy environment
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification for adults/children/infants (or willingness to obtain before start date)
- Ability to actively participate in physical activities with children, including swimming and outdoor recreation
- Capability to work in various indoor and outdoor environments across the JCC's 15-acre campus
$45,000 - $55,000
