Position OverviewThe State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting a Health Technology Department Head to join our team located in Stamford, CT. The candidate must possess an active State of Connecticut teaching certificate with the following endorsements: 109 Health Occupations and 826 Vocational Department Head Trade Technology, or qualify for a Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP).
Within the first year, candidates must:
- Obtain BLS Instructor Certification through the American Heart Association.
- Obtain American Red Cross CPR Instructor Certification.
- Obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements.
Schedule:
First shift, full‑time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday.
Location:
JM Wright Technical High School, Stamford, CT.
Salary: VS03, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
Academic Calendar: CTECS follows a ten‑month academic calendar (188 days per year).

The Health Technology Department Head is responsible for teaching all aspects of the Health Technology curriculum and for steering department operations.
Responsibilities include:
- Plan and deliver theoretical lessons and assess student competency.
- Use educational technology to facilitate learning.
- Provide hands‑on training that requires standing, moving, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, and operating equipment.
- Obtain and retain a Connecticut CDL to transport students.
- Participate in building‑ and district‑level professional development and collaboration, including committee work.
- Facilitate day‑to‑day operations of the department.
Minimum qualifications:
- A minimum of one (1) year of work experience in a long‑term care or rehabilitation facility.
- Experience teaching, preparing lesson plans, differentiated learning, and assessing students.
- College Career Pathway (CCP) or UConn Early College Experience (ECE) certifications.
- Completed courses at Central Connecticut State University: VTE 113, VTE 116, and Special Education.
Must possess a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education, with a secondary school endorsement, at the time of appointment.
