Position: School Counselor (Endorsement 068)

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

SCHEDULE:

first shift, full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday.

LOCATION:

J.M. Wright Technical High School, Stamford, CT

SALARY: VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR: CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar (188 days per year.)

CTECS operates 17 diploma-granting technical high schools, one technical education center and two airframe mechanics and aircraft maintenance programs. YOUR ROLE

A CTECS School counselor is responsible for implementing a developmentally appropriate, comprehensive, preventative, school counseling program that covers the academic, career, and social emotional domains and is aligned with the CT Comprehensive School Counseling Framework and ASCA professional school counselor standards, ethical standards, and Mindsets & Behaviors. School counselors work to maximize and support student success, while promoting access and equity to education for all students.

As vital members of the school leadership team, school counselors contribute to a school culture of success for all.

With continued education and professional development, such as earning an Intermediate Administrator Endorsement (092), possible career pathways for School Counselors may include:
Department Head, Assistant Principal, or Principal opportunities. CTECS employees may also transfer to other schools to gain a vast skillset working with different student and professional populations.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Facilitate small groups and short-term individual counseling using DBT-A and Restorative Practices.
  • Teach classroom school counseling lessons as part of the CTECS Comprehensive School Counseling Framework.
  • Conduct annual individual planning meetings with students and families in grades 9-12.
  • Assist students with postsecondary planning.
  • Collect and analyze data to document the results interventions and to make programmatic decisions.
  • Collaborate with central office, administration, teachers, families, and other staff to support school and district improvement goals.
  • Participate in meetings to review and provide multi-tiered systems of support to students.
  • Serve as the case manager for all students with 504 plans on their caseload.
  • Advocate for equitable access to programs and services, and compassionate and just treatment of all students.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Other duties as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience delivering the CT Comprehensive School Counseling Framework (CCSCF) or the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model.
  • Experience with career counseling and postsecondary trade pathways
  • Experience communicating ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience working effectively and collaboratively with school leadership, staff, families and the community
  • Experience utilizing data to address student and departmental needs
  • Familiar with counseling technology such as Naviance, DESSA, CTSEDS, and Power School
  • Experience utilizing strong public relations, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Experience managing a caseload of students with 504 plans.
  • Experience with school based DBT-A (dialectical behavioral therapy).
  • Experience with restorative practices.
  • Direct experience with student recruitment
  • Experience designing and running small group interventions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
