Plainfield Public Schools Substitute Teacher – School Year
Plainfield Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Substitute Teachers for the academic year. We are seeking reliable and adaptable professionals capable of maintaining a supportive, productive, and engaging learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
CompensationThe standard daily rate for new substitutes is $160.00 per day, returning substitutes is $165.00 per day, and the rate for staff certified in CT rate is $185.00 per day. Please note that an additional rate may apply for retired Plainfield teachers.
Schedule and Time CommitmentSubstitute teachers must arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the day to pick up materials and assignments and allow 10 minutes after student dismissal for finalization of paperwork and daily checkout procedures.
Educational RequirementsCandidates must hold at least a bachelor's degree in any major from an accredited institution and provide transcripts verifying their highest level of education.
Additionally, fingerprinting and comprehensive background checks are mandated by the State of Connecticut for all new employees of the Plainfield Public Schools.
In some circumstances, an individual who has not yet achieved a bachelor's degree may be considered for the state's ED 174 waiver based on alternative post-secondary education and significant professional experience working with children.
Key Responsibilities and DutiesSubstitute teachers are expected to implement provided lesson plans, deliver lessons across different subjects, assign and explain homework, and adapt methods to meet student needs. Classroom management is essential, requiring substitutes to maintain discipline, enforce school policies, foster a respectful atmosphere, and supervise students during class, lunch, recess, and hallway transitions. Administrative tasks include taking attendance, recording grades, distributing materials, completing daily reports for the regular teacher, and handling necessary paperwork.
Furthermore, substitutes must assist students with assignments, provide guidance, and ensure their overall well-being and safety, all while communicating effectively with school staff, administration, and potentially parents to ensure a smooth transition.
