Our client, a well-established community bank in the Stamford, CT metro area, is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to lead their accounting operations during a period of leadership transition. This requires oversight of the daily and monthly financial cycles while supporting the team through the external audit.
About the RoleThis is a high-impact, 3–6 month contract role reporting directly to an Executive Finance Leader. You will join a strong accounting team, in a collaborative environment that includes SEC reporting, Regulatory Reporting, FP&A, and Treasury.
Responsibilities- Operational Oversight: Manage the daily general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and daily/monthly reconciliations.
- Month-End Close: Lead and streamline the monthly closing process, ensuring all entries are accurate and deadlines are met within the community banking framework.
- Audit Support: Serve as a primary point of contact and subject matter expert for the external audit team, preparing work papers and ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
- Staff Leadership: Provide mentorship and daily oversight to a small, dedicated accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy and accountability.
- Reporting & Analytics: Utilize Power BI and core banking systems to provide clear financial visibility to the Executive Finance Consultant and CFO.
- Banking Industry Expertise: Proven experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller within a community or regional bank setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Hands‑on experience with Prologue and DNA (Fiserv) core banking systems.
- Technical Accounting: Deep understanding of bank‑specific reconciliations, call reporting support, and internal controls.
- Availability: Ability to work onsite in Stamford, CT 3‑4 days/week.
- Commitment: Ability to commit to a 3–6 month project duration, maintaining a standard work week.
- Data Visualization: Advanced proficiency in Power BI for financial reporting and dashboarding.
- Advanced
Education:
CPA designation or MBA is highly preferred. - Immediate Impact: A track record of "hitting the ground running" in interim roles, specifically during year‑end or audit cycles.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interface effectively with a diverse finance team.
