Grants Accountant

Job Summary:
The Grants Accountant is responsible for managing the financial administration of grants and contracts, including budgeting, reporting, compliance, and reconciliation. This role ensures all grant-related financial activity aligns with organizational policies and funding agency requirements. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and experience working in a nonprofit or grant-funded environment.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Monitor and track grant revenues and receipts to ensure all entitled funds are collected.

  • Monitor and track grant expenditures to ensure compliance with funding guidelines and restrictions.

  • Prepare and submit timely financial reports to funding agencies.

  • Work within various funding source portals to upload required documentation.

  • Assist with grant budget development, revisions, and modifications.

  • Partner with program managers to review spending and forecast funding needs.

  • Reconcile grant accounts and ensure accurate allocation of expenses.

  • Maintain detailed documentation to support audits and reporting requirements.

  • Manage timely invoicing and drawdowns from funding sources.

  • Stay current on federal, state, and private grant regulations.

  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes related to grants.

  • Assist with internal and external audits and annual budget preparation as needed.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in grant accounting or nonprofit financial management.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and strong working knowledge of accounting and billing systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
