Position: Senior Network Engineer- 40hr

Overview

The Senior Network Engineer is fully experienced with an exceptional skill set responsible for the architecture, design and support of the enterprise network infrastructure. The individual works with a team of network engineers and vendors and collaborates with cybersecurity and other IT team members on testing, integration, and deployment of network systems. The Senior Network Engineer serves as a key contributor and advisor to less seasoned engineers and analysts and acts as a liaison to the Lead Network Engineer.

The role manages resources under their area of responsibility to ensure support of new systems and may include limited leadership activities.

The following responsibilities and qualifications describe the expectations for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced level network administration/maintenance for enterprise VMWare, SAN and Data Centers in multiple locations.
  • Provide advanced level network administration for enterprise video conferencing and VOIP systems.
  • Perform firmware, hardware, OS upgrades, and required patch management.
  • Monitor overall network performance and perform the necessary tuning.
  • Maintain backup copies for all network component configurations.
  • Be actively involved in implementing/testing disaster recovery (DR) processes.
  • Regularly test the validity of network redundancy and failover circuits.
  • Analyze and define systems information requirements and objectives for application and systems enhancements or replacements as they affect networking to ensure performance metrics are achieved.
  • Prepare written documentation of the need for network changes or replacements and coordinate staff and manage multiple projects or large tasks for their implementation.
  • Prepare written documentation in support of network enhancements and replacements (hardware/software).
  • Identify and work collaboratively to resolve internetworking issues between different vendor systems and devices.
  • Develop, implement, document and validate comprehensive test plans for relevant networking components and related interfaces.
  • Devise and conduct pre- and post-project benchmarking metrics for moderate to complex projects.
  • Participate in the system selection process, including needs assessment, RFP and vendor selection.
  • Perform 3rd level networking support.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support if applicable.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline; equivalent experience acceptable.
  • Seven (7) years minimum in-depth experience performing network engineering (hardware and software), network design, planning and implementing WLANs, LANs, and WANs using the latest technology.
  • Three (3) years of experience in related planning, analysis, configuration, installation, management and coordination work.
  • Ability to handle basic network administration tasks to fulfill backup role if needed.
  • Demonstrated experience working well with customers of varying levels of technical expertise in high pressure situations and complex environments.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Policies and procedures related to functional units supported
  • Inter-relationships between functional areas
  • Dynamic and Static Network Routing, AAA, Netflow, QOS, VOIP, WPA-2, IEEE tested standards.
  • Desktop and Server operating systems and standard application TCP ports.
  • Ethernet and WLAN technology, terminology, encryption and standards.
  • Project development life cycle methodologies desired.
  • Cross application/system workflow and data relationships is required.
