Job Description
Associate IBMi Administrator responsible for administration, planning, and scheduling of all activities associated with providing support for the entire AS400 landscape.
What You’ll Do- Support any User Profile, Single Sign-on (EIM), and/or authority requirements as needed.
- Monitor backup jobs by analyzing for any data exposures, keeping track of backup times, tape and size requirements.
- Assist with any ad hoc or programmed restore requests.
- Perform MIMIX validations to help ensure we are switch ready.
- Provide performance metrics through daily, weekly, and monthly reporting.
- Install approved PTF packages.
- Installation and maintenance of 3rd party applications such as Vertex updates and Go Anywhere promotions.
- Create, copy, modify, and/or delete jobs in both the IBM and Advanced job schedulers.
- Creation of critical documentation for system processes such as backups, HMC environment and RCA (root cause analysis) for any system/application issues.
- Effectively troubleshoot system issues and work with other departments to obtain a successful resolution within a short period of time.
- Work with management for system performance goals and adhere to all United Rentals problem notification and escalation processes when there is a production impacting issue.
- Maintain continuing education to stay current with industry trends and new technologies.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in infrastructure engineering and operations.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with AS/400 technologies and architectures.
- Knowledge of backup and recovery including BRMS, Netbackup, Data Domain VTL, etc.
- Experience with OS upgrade planning process including working with 3rd party vendors.
- Experience with installing, upgrading, and patching operating system and applications including PTFs and OS.
- LPAR configuration, HMC configuration.
- Programming: CL, RPG, SQL, and PHP.
- Basic knowledge of networking, cabling, switches, etc.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong vendor management and SLA governance skills.
- Highly motivated individual with a desire to review and improve the support process and procedures.
