Opportunity Summary
General Dynamics Electric Boat, the world’s foremost designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking an IT Application Architect to join the organization within the Information Technology Department. The ideal candidate will have an enterprise mindset with the goal of aligning IT work with business-driven objectives. Relevant profiles include broad IT knowledge and experience with information systems, business and technology architecture domains as well as architecture frameworks and processes.
The candidate should be an active learner and able to work independently on multiple tasks simultaneously. This role requires experience across varying applications in the areas of software requirements definition, development, design, and re‑engineering.
- Interpreting business needs to define and address a solution’s functional and nonfunctional architectural requirements
- Articulating ideas through compelling and relatable narratives to educate and engage relevant stakeholders
- Resolving issues and making progress even when given unclear, contradictory, or inconsistent information
- Collaborating with other IT professionals, such as other application architects, data architects, software developers, system engineers, and infrastructure engineers
- Designing or governing IT application solution architectures to meet internal and/or external business needs
- Managing formal and informal communications with target audience to build more effective stakeholder relationships
- Coaching non-architects to think like architects and apply architectural frameworks/processes independently
- Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in developing solution architectures
- Proficiency working within a highly regulated industry such as Federal, State, Finance, Healthcare or Life Sciences
- Experience reducing complex topics and distilling them into management level summaries for non-technical audiences
- Experience with industry frameworks and standards such as UML, TOGAF, ITIL
- Understanding of multiple software development life-cycles (SDLC) methodologies, e.g., waterfall, agile
- Understanding the enterprise-level implications of day‑day decisions
- Comfortable collaborating amongst a senior team of architects
