Role Summary/Purpose
:
The VP, Staff Cryptography Engineer will play a key role in safeguarding enterprise multi-cloud systems, networks, and data. The position is responsible for designing, developing, driving, implementing, leading and managing multi-cloud Information Security Engineering activities for the Cryptography program, including the underlying capabilities and technologies. This role will act as a trusted peer and stakeholder advisor within the organization, working closely with Information Security Engineering leadership to ensure delivery of the overall program roadmap against the Cryptography strategy and vision.
The VP, Staff Cryptography Engineer is part of the Synchrony Information Security Cryptography Team, serving as a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) lead while supporting other efforts such as Cloud Security, Cryptography, Information Security, Key/Secrets Management, Privacy, and Tokenization.
The candidate will have an engineering position focused on delivering critical enterprise data protection controls, efficient supporting processes, and comprehensive automation capabilities to protect and enable Synchrony’s Information Security Engineering strategy role requires strong understanding and hands-on experience with Cloud Security, Cryptography, Dev Sec Ops , Information Security, Key/Secrets Management, PKI, and related domains (automation, governance, lifecycle management, operations, process engineering, and security standards development).
Responsibilities- Adopt and promote engineering excellence by identifying efficiencies and synergies through automation, collaboration, and orchestration
- Collaborate with architecture to identify capability gaps, develop requirements, identify solutions, assist with proofs of concept, and test solutions
- Provide ongoing Dev Sec Ops /Engineering support for a global cryptography program leveraging a portfolio of multi-cloud data protection capabilities
- Manage technology from the ground up, identify gaps within the tech stack, and address overlaps or capability gaps
- Maintain BAU by ensuring proper change management, disaster recovery, incident management, and related processes
- Participate as a technical lead on a team of Information Security engineers
- Contribute to authoring, editing, and reviewing documentation (procedures, standards) to ensure a well-managed security infrastructure
- Prioritize work with peers using Agile processes, and communicate risks and asks to leadership in a timely fashion
- Lead hands-on engineering and implementation of multi-cloud security measures protecting applications, systems, information, infrastructure, and networks
- Design and build multi-cloud solutions safeguarding platforms and systems
- Proactively identify problems and articulate solutions and recommendations
- Provide day-to-day administration and support for multi-cloud infrastructure related to API security, encryption, PKI, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and related logs/processes
- Provide engineering/operations support for multi-cloud technology and processes, ensuring quality service and identifying process improvements
- Serve as a leader, mentor, and SME to Information Security team members and stakeholders
- Act as SAFe Product Owner for cryptographic technologies, defining and maintaining team backlog and product roadmap
- Support a gree-with-it-you-own-it" model, ensuring technology is supported across operations
- Collaborate with program manager, scrum master, and architects to communicate technical impacts, timeline, and risks
- Work independently to identify opportunities to improve engineering performance for Information Security/Technology
- Engage with enterprise and information security owners, architects, developers, engineers, and governance teams to drive program delivery
- Bachelor degree with a minimum of 5 years' experience in Application Development, Information Security, Systems Engineering, or related field; or a High School Diploma/GED with at least 7 years of equivalent experience
