Overview
As an integral member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) healthcare team, the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) upholds the YNHHS mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives to provide the highest level of patient‑centered care. The RN practices professional nursing within the legal and ethical framework established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and the YNHHS Professional Practice Model.
The professional role of the RN is exemplified by leadership, delegation, collaboration, effective communication, and ensuring quality outcomes. YNHHS nurses practice in a framework that emphasizes autonomy and accountability and value evidence‑based practice with the patient and family at the center.
- Establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family, integrating cultural and diversity considerations into practice.
- Communicates and works collaboratively with the patient, family and health‑care team members.
- Respects the patient's values, preferences, expressed needs and knowledge of the healthcare situation in holistic data collection, in formulating health‑care outcomes, and in the evaluation process.
- Performs the nursing process components of assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation and evaluation, including coordination of care and transitions.

HVC Cardiac Medical Intermediate Care Unit (5-2 SP): 26‑bed cardiovascular medicine inpatient unit. Cardiovascular specialty care including medical and interventional management of coronary artery disease and atrial/ventricular dysrhythmias (cardiac procedures such as catheterization, angioplasty/stent, pacemaker, ICD, ablations).
HVC Cardiac Surgery Intermediate Care and Step‑Down Unit (5-3 SP): 25‑bed cardiac surgery unit, including 3 step‑down beds caring for a diverse range of cardiac populations such as post‑operative management for CABG, valve replacement and aneurysm repairs.
HVC Cardiac Intermediate Care and Step‑Down Unit (V3E):
Verdi 3 East is a 30‑bed cardiac unit located at the Saint Raphael Campus. Primary population includes patients with cardiac procedures.
Advanced Heart Failure and Stroke Unit (V5E):
Verdi 5 East is a 29‑bed cardiac unit located at the Saint Raphael Campus. Patient population consists of advanced heart failure, MI, pre/post cardiac catheterization, pacer/ICD placement, stroke patients post‑TNK, and related medical issues.
HVC Cardiac Medical Intermediate Care Unit (5-7 EP): 26‑bed telemetry heart and vascular unit, predominantly general cardiology, post‑cardiac procedure, heart failure, and vascular surgery patients.
Qualifications- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.
- Licensed and currently registered.
- Accountable to practice within the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Nurse Practice Act of the state.
