- Delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation.
- Demonstrates competency in IV insertion and removal of.
- Active participation in any “Time Out” performed for procedures.
- Maintain patent airway, including adult and pediatric patients.
- Manages monitoring and respiratory equipment, IV lines, tubes, drains and catheters.
- Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants and other hazardous substances.
- Uses strong nursing judgement in determining appropriate nursing action and exhibits control in emergency situations.
- Documents and reports to MD pertinent information, observations, and all aspects of patient care clearly, concisely and in a timely manner.
- Assists with the development and clinical precepting of students and new employees.
- Maintains equipment and utilizes supplies in a safe, cost-effective manner.
- Complies with hospital attendance policy and department staffing policy and rotations.
- Adhere to hospital and department specific dress code policy.
- Complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures and adheres to external agency requirements.
- Completes required continuing education and training, including department specific requirements. Takes responsibility for own professional development.
- Adhere to aseptic practices to protect patients from injury, minimize wound contamination and reduce patient risk for surgical site infection.
- Applies basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care.
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with all members of the healthcare team and related departments to provide accurate information about the perioperative care of the patients.
