Job Description

Stamford Health is hiring a Full‑time OR RN for the HSS OR located at the Tully Health Center, 32 Strawberry Hill Ct, Stamford CT.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm. The individual will support peri‑operative nursing care in a collaborative, patient‑centered environment aligned with Planetree philosophy.

• Assume responsibility and accountability for the preoperative and phase II post anesthetic patient and their families through the nursing process.
• Respect and protect patient confidentiality and privacy.
• Provide safe patient care by verifying patient identification and ensuring necessary documents, lab tests, consents, equipment, and radiology images.
• Deliver patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
• Practice the 5 rights to patient safety when administering medications, blood or blood products, and treatments.
• Apply basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care.
• Demonstrate competency in IV insertion and discontinuation.
• Active participant in the "TIME OUT" prior to a peripheral nerve block.
• Maintain patent airway for adult and pediatric patients.
• Manage monitoring and respiratory equipment, fluid lines, tubes, drains, and catheters.
• Function in a supporting role as a secondary RN in PACU as needed, including call coverage.
• Formulate appropriate teaching plans based on patient age and understanding level.
• Address patient, family, or responsible adult questions and assess understanding of education.
• Evaluate patient readiness for discharge from unit and hospital.
• Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, and hazardous substances.
• Use good nursing judgment to determine appropriate nursing action and exhibit control in emergency situations.
• Document pertinent information, observations, and all aspects of patient care clearly, concisely, and timely.
• Assist with the development and clinical precepting of students and new employees.
• Maintain equipment and utilize supplies safely and cost‑effectively.
• Comply with hospital attendance, staffing, and rotation policies.
• Adhere to hospital dress code and departmental policies and external agency requirements.
• Complete required continuous training and education, including department‑specific requirements.
• Take responsibility for own professional development.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with all members of the health‑care team and related departments.
• Display a positive attitude and work to achieve an environment of respect, accountability, teamwork, integrity, and compassion.
• Formulate and maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, and other team members.
• Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures and standards of care that contribute to the organization’s strategic plan.
• Cross‑train and rotate to other clinical areas in peri‑operative services as needed.

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Valid license as Registered Nurse in Connecticut.
• BLS/ACLS certification required.
• PALS certification within the first year of hire.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, surgical center staff, physicians, and other health‑care workers; read, write, and speak English.
• Minimum of 2 years previous experience in a similar position.
