Mainduties of the job
As a Second Chef at Barchester Healthcare, you will work closely with the Head Chef to create nutritious, flavorsome, and well-balanced menus for the care home residents. You will have the chance to work with fresh, seasonal produce and deliver hotel/restaurant standards without the typical split shifts and long hours. Your responsibilities will include managing the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence, assisting with menu development, creating a warm and welcoming environment, and managing stock control.
You will also be expected to work within budget and complete regular audits.

We are looking for a personable and warm approach with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of residents. A City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent qualification is required, along with a good understanding of nutrition, experience with fresh seasonal food, and the ability to create a warm and welcoming environment within our home. A good understanding of HACCP is also required. You should be confident engaging with residents to create appetising and nutritious menus and capable of managing kitchen operations in the Head Chef’s absence.
You will work with fresh produce to deliver high-quality, wholesome dishes, operate within budget, and complete regular audits. You will also manage stock control.

Person Specification Qualifications- You will need to hold a City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent qualification, along with a good understanding of nutrition and experience working with fresh, seasonal food. Strong communication skills, the ability to engage with residents, and a good grasp of HACCP are also required.
