Director, Software Engineer – Circle Engineer

• Lead a team of Software Engineers through technical guidance, mentorship, and modeling Travelers’ leadership behaviors
• Direct complex software design, development, analysis, configuration, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documentation, health monitoring/alerting, and implementation
• Lead investigation and resolution of critical, high-impact problems, defects, and incidents
• Identify opportunities to use technology to improve the business and create more efficient processes
• Apply current industry trends and techniques to formulate software engineering solutions
• Consult with users to determine hardware, software, or system functional specifications
• Manage effective use of resources
• Act as a subject matter expert across multiple applications, systems, and technologies
• Drive planning and execution of complex initiatives using technical and business knowledge
• Participate in design and development processes
• Provide technical leadership
• Perform other duties as assigned

• 5 years of related experience, including insurance / financial services industry experience
• Demonstrated experience implementing current technology trends and techniques, such as cloud-based solutions leveraging microservices
• Advanced delivery skills, including software design strategy, automated testing, analysis, feedback loops, and production-readiness monitoring
• Demonstrated domain expertise and ability to develop business partnerships and influence priorities
• Strong problem-solving skills using data and proofs of concept
• Advanced decision-making skills involving significant factors with broad implications
• Strong communication skills, including explaining technology concepts, documenting initiatives, collaborating, extracting core issues, and giving and receiving feedback
• Advanced leadership skills, including taking action without a clear owner, motivating others, and influencing team members
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or equivalent in education and/or work experience
• 6 additional years of software engineering experience

Demonstrates advanced leadership and technical expertise in software engineering, with a focus on cloud-based solutions and microservices. Proven ability to drive complex initiatives, mentor teams, and enhance business processes through technology.
