Job Title
Act as CT transit 's frontline leader in monitoring and directing performance to achieve established goals and performance expectations and ensure safe, reliable, responsive service in all divisions, playing the roles of street supervisor, Dispatcher, and Foreman.
Examples of Duties- Monitors and directs on-street bus service operations to ensure compliance with CT transit, federal, state, local, and contractual requirements, conformity with operations goals, policies, procedures, and responsiveness to customer needs.
- Monitors bus service performance and radio transmissions to identify and coordinate the resolution of problems related to schedule adherence, service disruptions, rescheduling of service/transfer of passengers, equipment failures, detours, emergencies, incidents, and customer concerns.
- Investigates and reports on accidents or incidents, handling collection and photographing of evidence, measurements, interviewing of witnesses, providing for alternate passenger service and required medical assistance, coordinating information with other agencies, and preparation of written accident reports, Supervisor's special reports, and review of Operator reports.
- Investigates customer complaints to assess validity, reviews findings with Operator, coaches and issues violations for infractions as required to improve performance, and prepares written customer service reports.
- Regularly monitors Operator's appearance, supplies, driving and customer service performance; reinforces performance expectations; gives instructions; offers positive recognition for meeting or exceeding expectations; coaches to improve skills, issues violations if warranted.
- Regularly shares information about service conditions/problems with Dispatch, Foreman, street supervisors, and management and effectively collaborates with all to resolve problems in a manner which maintains respect and cooperation in the unit.
- Assists customers with questions and concerns, resolves problems and conflicts with other customers or Operators, modeling Ambassador skills in all interactions.
- Manages other duties and special projects as required, including but not limited to quality inspection of buses, providing transportation and documentation for employee drug testing, preparation of daily bus inventory and bus assignment sheets, inventory of signs, supplies, bus stops, etc.
- As Dispatcher, operates the two-way radio system, communicating all required service information to Operators and Supervisors in a timely manner. Responds to problems and service disruptions providing direction and instructions, dispatching and coordinating support to accidents, incidents, emergencies, service disruptions, or customer situations. Communicates information about delays or detours to the Information Center. Maintains timely, accurate logs, road call, service interruption, bus change, and other reports, and ensures a smooth transition to the next shift.
- As Foreman, conducts daily bid or spare board Operators, make other work assignments to cover jobs of absent Operators, and assigns overtime work in accordance with Union contract provisions to ensure cost effective and reliable allocation of the work force to all scheduled service. Maintains records and log sheets regarding Operator time, attendance and assignments. Provides transfers and paddles to Operators reporting for duty.
- Work cooperatively with all levels of personnel.
- Attends in-service training, seminars or other opportunities for professional development as made available by the Agency. Provides training for Agency personnel as required. Actively participates in staff meetings, trainings, etc.
- Has thorough working knowledge of Agency policies and procedures.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Minimum possession of a High School Diploma/GED.
- Recommended five years transportation operations and or equivalent leadership experience.
- Bus Operator and Supervisor in Training experience required with an excellent time, attendance and work performance record.
