Nurse Practitioner – Research / Physician Assistant (1 Year‑Fixed Term)
Part‑time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant role at Stanford University to oversee clinical course of research participants in clinical trials.
Responsibilities- Ensure safety of study participants; maintain communication with families, caregivers, clinicians.
- Provide clinical & administrative support; obtain history, conduct exams, review charts, prescribe, refill, perform procedures per protocol.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, researchers, vendors, staff to administer treatments & study protocols.
- Assess, grade, document adverse events; apply triage & judgment to determine action.
- Oversee & administer medications & treatments per study protocol.
- Comply with policies, SOPs, guidelines; prepare & submit documentation per protocol & sponsor.
- Coordinate with PI to review protocol; assess feasibility, budget projections, staffing needs.
- Supervise & train non‑clinical & clinical staff/students.
- Identify, recruit, enrol study participants; maintain records; determine criteria.
- Support sponsor investigator research with IND/IDE applications.
- Current and active state license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education & relevant experience.
- Conduct physical examinations.
- Provide direction to research support staff.
- Understand good clinical practices & regulatory compliance.
- Perform functions with minimal supervision.
- Verbal & written communication to convey medical & research info.
- Identify confidential & sensitive information.
- Implement good clinical practices in interactions with participants, families, colleagues.
- Identify adverse reactions & document to record activities.
- Implement study protocols with minimal supervision.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the California State Board of Registered Nursing. Certified as Nurse Practitioner by the California State Board of Registered Nursing.
- Certification to practice as a physician assistant issued by the California State Board of Medical Quality Assurance. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk‑based tasks, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use telephone, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.
- Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, operate foot/hand controls.
- Rarely kneel/crawl, climb, scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix, operate manual pipette.
- Obtain & maintain valid California non‑commercial class license & operate vehicle during daylight hours.
- Work with, take precautions against, & immune to potentially hazardous agents.
- Exposed to blood borne pathogens.
- On call 24 hours/day.
- Frequent travel, may include international travel.
Expected salary range $142,583 – $178,324 per annum prorated at 50% FTE.
