Research Manager – School of Medicine, Stanford, CA

Position within the Stanford Prevention Research Center (SPRC), a consortium dedicated to preventive health research and translational science. The Sexual and Gender Minority Health Equity Laboratory conducts clinical trials and observational studies to improve LGBTQIA+ health. The laboratory is seeking a Research Manager to support research activities and ensure successful project completion.

Duties
  • Assist in designing experiments, including defining variables, formulating hypotheses, selecting subjects, sources of information, and coordinating experimental protocols.
  • Adapt or develop details for new, nonstandard procedures under general guidance.
  • Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data using scientific and statistical techniques.
  • Propose solutions, make decisions that influence research direction, and contribute independently to overall project goals.
  • Co‑author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed.
  • Complete project‑related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of limited scope.
  • Supervise staff or students, providing oversight, instruction on techniques, and consultation on project work.
Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to analyze, research, and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and experience with institutional review boards and study procedures.
  • Experience using statistical software (Stata and/or R preferred) for analyses, data merges, and visualizations; familiarity with Python code.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with participants, team members, and external partners.
  • Ability to convey complex information clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience drafting scientific manuscripts and progress reports.
  • Experience with qualitative research methods, including interviewing and thematic analysis.
  • Ability to program instruments in Qualtrics and REDCap.
  • Knowledge of and capability to communicate with LGBTQIA+ research participants, as well as those who use substances or have experienced trauma or other mental health difficulties.
  • Knowledge of genomic research methodologies.
Education & Experience (Required)
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science field with at least two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent desk‑based computer tasks, light/fine manipulation, and lifting/carrying objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasional standing, walking, sitting, telephone use, handwriting, and sorting/files paperwork.
  • Rarely twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crawling, or reaching/work above shoulders.
  • Operation of foot and/or hand controls as required.
Working Conditions
  • Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens possible.
  • Work may require non‑standard, extended, or weekend hours to support research.
Pay

The expected pay range for this position is $81,130 to $94,895 per annum.
