As a member of our research team, the Research Scientist will make original scientific contributions including (1) evaluation of small molecules in biochemical, cell biological, and virological assays;

(2) characterization of small molecule mechanisms of action; (3) development of novel assays for evaluating and optimizing compounds with induced proximity mechanisms of action. The Research Scientist will write scientific sections of grant applications and progress reports and mentor/supervise junior members of the research team. This is a 1-year fixed term appointment with the possibility of reappointment contingent upon funding and operational needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in virology, cell or molecular biology, or biochemistry plus at least 2 years of postdoctoral training that includes prior experience with molecular virology of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), including molecular biology and reverse genetics; replication and reactivation assays; cell line generation and optimization.
  • Experience with EBNA1, LMP1, and LMP2 biochemistry and/or induced proximity approaches using small molecules or biologics also desired or must be acquired on the job.
  • The ability to identify and pilot the appropriate approaches to answer experimental questions/problems and to independently design experiments to advance projects is required.
  • Excellent quantitative and communication skills, effective data management and curation, and ability to collaborate are essential.

The successful candidate will have strong accuracy and attention to detail, excellent record keeping and data organization/management; and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities to achieve desired goals. Knowledge and skill in applying quantitative methods to biological problems and experiments necessary. Experience managing and mentoring junior scientists in the laboratory is highly desired. Proficiency with Windows operating systems and software applications including Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Graphpad Prism, Matlab, and other quantitative analysis programs.
