Job Overview

The City of Stanton is accepting applications for the position of Community Services Coordinator to fill one vacancy in the Family Resource Center of the Community Services Department. The purpose of this role is to plan, develop, implement, and oversee a wide range of community services, recreational programs, special events, and to supervise staff in preparing and implementing programs and events.

Incumbents may coordinate day‑to‑day operations of either the Family Resource Center or Stanton Central Park depending on current need.

Work Schedule

5 day workweek (Monday - Friday).

Essential Functions
  • Assign, supervise, and review the work of Family Resource Center staff.
  • Assist with the preparation of grants and contracts, track grant activity, and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Communicate with funded and community partners and County personnel to support operations.
  • Compile statistical and financial data for various reports; make recommendations as needed.
  • Plan and facilitate monthly partner meetings, prepare agenda, meeting notes and discussion topics.
  • Participate in various collaboratives and committees; attend community events to promote services; initiate outreach to new partners and service providers; act as liaison with community and civic groups.
  • Plan, organize and implement programs for the community that strengthen families.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a program budget and prudently allocate resources to accomplish program activities.
  • Prepare and present verbal and written reports to governmental agencies and community groups.
  • Respond to and resolve difficult citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Use a computer to perform job‑related tasks.

  • Theories, principles, and practices common to the field of recreation and human services.
  • Current human services and social issues affecting the community.
  • Techniques for counseling, education, intervention, and conflict resolution.
  • Effective practices for budgeting and personnel supervision and management.
  • Requirements for working within grant guidelines and for maintaining grant‑required accounting and other records.
  • Principles and practices of effective supervision, employee motivation, and team building.
  • Techniques for effective verbal and written communication, including preparation of reports, grants, evaluations, and other material as appropriate.
  • Safe driving principles and practices.
Abilities / Skills
  • Ability to assess community needs and to develop and locate providers for specific programs and services to address those needs.
  • Skill in resource development to garner grants, donations, sponsor ships, and in‑kind services beneficial to human service programming.
  • Understanding of cultural diversity and how it is pertinent to working with youth and their families.
  • Good judgment, analytical and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and handle competing priorities and demands.
  • Ability to facilitate effective collaboration and agreement among employees and community groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with city staff, outside agencies, service providers and the public; ability to communicate in Spanish is desirable.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to assess the human services needs of those contacted in the course of the work, and to provide services or make referrals to needed resources as needed.
  • Ability to effectively supervise part‑time Community Services staff, volunteers and interns.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed for special events and meetings; flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and schedules.
Experience / Training / Education
  • Three years experience in handling human service programs and supervising community recreation programs and activities.
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, public administration, education, health, human services, or a related area.
