Position Function

Vacancy for a part-time, time-limited lecturer position to teach Spanish courses for the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures.

Salary Grade

Department Profile

Mississippi State University is an R1, research‑oriented institution with the largest research and development budget in the state and a student population of approximately 22,500 (as of fall 2023). The Classical and Modern Languages & Literatures department has a dynamic program with an energetic and productive research and teaching faculty experienced in training high‑achieving undergraduate and graduate students. The department offers a BA in Foreign Languages with concentrations in Asian Studies, Classics, French, German, and Spanish;

an International Business Program (a joint BA in Foreign Languages and Business Administration); and an MA in Foreign Languages, with areas of study in French, German, and Spanish. Other languages offered include Italian and Russian. The department also offers a World Language Teaching Minor at the graduate and undergraduate levels and coordinates a multidisciplinary Minor in Latin American Studies at the undergraduate level.

The department has study abroad program options for students in France, Germany, and Spain.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach Spanish courses for the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in field.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of college teaching experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Spanish language and at least some regional dialects. Knowledge of the communicative approach to language teaching and ability to implement that approach. Some knowledge of Spanish literature and very strong organizational skills.
