Position Function

The Coordinator for TRiO STEM provides support and instruction to limited‑income, first‑generation college students in STEM fields. The Coordinator develops and administers programming to meet the needs of the TRiO STEM program participants and offers learning skills and study strategies to assist students in their academic endeavors.

Responsibilities
  • Determine eligibility for participation by reviewing income, first‑generation status, and/or disability status.
  • Process student applications to ensure completeness and maintain a database of TRiO STEM participants.
  • Create, develop, and implement career‑readiness workshops, events, and field trips in STEM fields.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating STEM educational program activities for all participants.
  • Provide comprehensive academic, personal, STEM career, and financial‑aid counseling to each participant.
  • Maintain STEM resources (tutoring, research presentations, postsecondary preparation, financial literacy, academic advising, disciplinary resources, FAFSA assistance).
  • Monitor and document academic progress of participants as they matriculate each semester.
  • Assist with TRiO Annual Performance Report and other grant maintenance activities as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other campus units to create specialized academic initiatives, advocate, expand service awareness, and build a support network for TRiO STEM students.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise student ambassadors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility

Receives supervision from the Executive Director/Project Director and has full supervisory responsibility for the Graduate Assistant of TRiO STEM.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to the position and one year of directly related experience. Substitution is allowed for an equivalent combination of education and experience approved by Human Resources Management.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Education or a related discipline.

  • Ability to manage co‑curricular activities and academic support programs.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Prioritizes tasks and delegates effectively.
  • Proficiency with database and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to lead high‑impact initiatives from conception to implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Independent, self‑starter with strong work ethic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Division of Access, Opportunity, and Success.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
  • No unusual physical requirements; requires limited lifting of files and records.
  • Work involves frequent external deadlines, interruptions, and conflict resolution; tasks are often unpredictable beyond a few days.
  • Work requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling objects with hands.
  • Occasional work on weekends and long hours may be required.
