Instructor Positions Available

The College of Forest Resources at Mississippi State University has one or more instructor positions available across the three academic departments within the college. Instructors are teaching-specific roles with no direct research responsibility. These are promo table positions with ranks of instructor I, II, and III, dependent on experience, time in service, and effectiveness. These instructor levels are either full-time or part-time (dependent upon departmental needs), 9-month or 12-month (dependent upon departmental needs), non-tenure track positions.

Salary grade: UC

Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Teaching opportunities are wide-ranging throughout our curricula and include natural resources and environmental science, forestry, sustainable bioproducts, forest products, wildlife and fisheries science, conservation education, or other general ecological or natural resource courses fitting the applicant's interest and the college's need. Duties may include courses that have online components, are offered entirely online, or entirely face-to-face modality. These assignments may also include preparing, coordinating, and supervising lab sections with the support of graduate teaching assistants.

For 9-month appointments, there may be the opportunity to teach intercession courses for additional pay to meet student demand.

Minimum qualifications:

M.S. degree in a relevant discipline (Ph.D. required to instruct graduate-level courses), instructional experience at the university or community college level, excellent communication and organizational skills, and familiarity with common instructional technologies. Candidates with degrees pending will be considered if the expected completion date is before the position's start date.

Preferred qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who use evidence-based teaching practices, have instructional design experience, are committed to creating a safe learning environment, have taught a variety of courses, have experience coordinating teaching laboratories, and demonstrate excellence in teaching. Experience using learning management systems (CANVAS) Ph.D. or terminal degree in a relevant discipline, a minimum of one-year instructional experience, and experience coordinating teaching laboratories.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; strong organizational and computer skills.

Working conditions and physical effort:

No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
