Receptionist is responsible for greeting all persons entering the facility and directing them appropriately.
Job Responsibilities- Answers the telephone for all incoming calls using appropriate telephone etiquette and makes outgoing calls as needed and directed.
- Works with the outside health professionals, clinics, and facilities as well as the therapists and patients in scheduling patient appointments for evaluation and treatment according to directed guidelines.
- Takes telephone messages accurately and promptly routes to the appropriate staff.
- Performs typing tasks as directed.
- Obtains patient information sheet from the patient or Admissions Office or admits patients and constructs the initial medical record as directed for use by the therapists prior to the initial evaluation.
- Fills out any required forms as directed and routes appropriately.
- Uses the copier and facsimile (fax) machines as directed.
- Performs data entry as directed into the order entry system for patient billing purposes.
- Assists in insurance verification/approval as directed.
- Pulls and prepares medical records for use each day as directed.
- Takes records, correspondence, mail, etc. to any area of the hospital as directed and retrieves same from medical records and mail room.
- Monitors the arrival of all patients and visitors in the Waiting Room as well as all activities occurring in the Waiting Room and notifies the appropriate staff of any unsafe conditions or activities.
- Notifies the appropriate therapist of the arrival of each patient using the paging system as directed.
- Wears regulation uniform as directed.
- Attends all mandatory hospital in-services and all departmental meetings.
- Assists in data collection for the purpose of performance improvement as directed.
Previous office/clerical experience is desired. Must have average keyboard skills. Ability to use a personal computer is required (e.g. word processor program on Windows operating system).
ConfidentialityBaptist Memorial Hosp-Oktibbeha (BMHOC) will train the incumbent on all aspects of the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HIPAA training and certification are requirements of this position. The incumbent will adhere to all security and patient confidentiality rules and regulations mandated by the Federal Government and the State of Mississippi. Upon commencement of employment, the employee must sign a Patient Confidentiality and Security Agreement and abide by the BMHOC Confidentiality, Privacy, and Security Policies and Procedures.
Failure to adhere to the HIPAA standards, BMHOC Security and Confidentiality policies, and those set forth by the United States Federal Government, and the State of Mississippi will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Must have excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
