Job DescriptionREPORTS TO: SOCSD Police Chief
SUMMARY: The School Resource Officer is responsible for safeguarding school property against burglary, vandalism, trespassing, and other hazardous criminal or unauthorized activities as well as maintaining order and discipline among school students and staff. This position also conducts in-service training, provides counseling to students, and intervenes with uncooperative students, all under the direction of SOCSD’s Chief of Police.
SPECIFIC
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patrol school property to prevent crime.
- Conduct training in areas of expertise.
- Conduct criminal investigations.
- Provide counseling to students and intervene with uncooperative students.
- Ensure a safe and orderly school environment.
- Report regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notify supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent, Chief of Police, or Assistant Superintendents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum three (3) years of law enforcement experience as a certified police officer.
- Possession of a current State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Police Officer Full-time Certificate.
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalent.
- Consent to a rigorous background investigation.
