Job Description

REPORTS TO: SOCSD Chief of Police

SUMMARY: The campus enforcement officer is responsible for working along with other education personnel and students to provide a safe and secure school environment. The work involves enforcing district and individual school regulations, policies, and procedures. Officers receive general instructions from the School Principal/Director regarding adherence to administrative policies and regulations. Officers are directly responsible for maintaining safety and security in the assigned school.

SPECIFIC

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be familiar with the student and employee handbooks.
  • Patrols school property to enhance safety and security.
  • Monitors hallways and ensures a safe and orderly school.
  • Assists administration in removing disrupting students from classroom, when necessary, after administration’s initial attempt.
  • Maintains radio contact with other School Safety Officers and School Resource Officers.
  • Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
  • Communicates with students and help maintain a calm and non-violent atmosphere.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience related to above described duties in the law enforcement, security, or military areas.
  • Possession of a current State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Police Officer Part-time Certificate.
  • Complete a 40-hour School Safety Officer Basic Course as approved by the Mississippi Department of Education.
  • Consent to a rigorous background investigation.
