Qualifications NeededSeasonal/Part-Time Compost Facility Scale House Attendant - 20 hours per week or less, Monday through Friday (flexible scheduled days/hours between 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM).
The Scale House Attendant is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the scale house at the municipal compost facility, serving as the primary point of contact for residents, contractors, and staff.
This position ensures the accurate tracking of incoming and outgoing materials, maintains required records, and supports efficient site operations.
The attendant greets and directs customers, documents material types and user information, and monitors loads to ensure compliance with facility rules and prohibited material restrictions.
In addition to operational duties, the Scale House Attendant maintains a clean and organized work environment, provides basic customer service by answering questions related to recycling and composting, and utilizes computer systems for data entry, recordkeeping, and payment processing.
The role requires attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work on-site in a public-facing environment while supporting safe and orderly traffic flow within the facility.
Responsibilities- Maintain accurate paper and electronic records to support scale house and facility operations
- Respond to general questions from the public regarding recycling and compost services
- Keep the scale house and surrounding work area clean, organized, and presentable at all times
- Visually inspect incoming loads for prohibited materials (e.g., trash, plastic, treated wood) and take appropriate action
- Enter and document user/customer information accurately
- Operate point-of-sale and payment systems, including electronic credit card processing
- Coordinate basic administrative tasks such as record keeping and data entry related to operations
- Ability to read, write, and accurately document information
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and data entry systems
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public using tact, professionalism, and diplomacy
- Working knowledge of basic administrative functions such as filing systems and record keeping
- Familiarity with scheduling or payroll systems (preferred)
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, stooping, walking, and navigating stairs
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced, public-facing environment
- No lifting requirements beyond 5 - 10 lbs
Position requires on-site presence; remote work is not available.
